The Steep Canyon Rangers are a Grammy Award-winning American bluegrass and Americana band based in Asheville North Carolina. Formed in 2000 at the University of North Carolina, they are renowned for their original songwriting, virtuosic instrumentals, and high-profile collaborations.
Rooted in traditional Appalachian string-band music, the the band pushes the boundaries of bluegrass by weaving in elements of pop, country, and folk rock. While they honor the foundational elements of the genre, their primary strength has always been their prolific original songwriting. They have released over a dozen studio albums, with their 2012 release Nobody Knows You winning the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.
